The Indian Military Nursing Services also known as MNS is a part of Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) of the Indian Army. Military Nursing Services officers are granted Permanent Commission or Short Service Commission by The Honourable President of India. Employability:
The candidates will be selected for grant of Short Service Commission (SSC) in the Military Nursing Service(MNS) will be served for at least Five Years and according to the interest and service of the candidate, the service can be extendable to a total tenure of fourteen years(5+5+4).
Candidates will serve anywhere in Indian as the Military Nursing Service(Regular) Officers of the Indian Armed Forces (wings: Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force). In the first five years of commission service, no choice will be given for posting.
Educational Qualification & Registration:
A candidate should have passed either B.Sc.(Nursing), Post Basic(PB) B.Sc.(Nursing) or M.Sc.(Nursing) degree from the Indian Nursing Council(INC) recognized University and should be a registered Nurse and Midwife from any State Nursing Council.
Physical Fitness and Qualification:
According to the Military Standards by Military Boards and Authorities, Medical fitness will be examined. Two major examinations will be done i.e., X-Ray examination of Chest and USG(UltraSonoGraphy of the abdomen).
The shortlisted candidates will undergo physical fitness which is examined by the Medical Board which is arranged by the office of DGAFMS(Directorate General Armed Force Medical Services).
Important Note: At the time of Medical Examination and joining for the commission, pregnant candidates will be marked as rejected with the note as temporarily medically unfit. However, there is no issue for pregnant candidates at the time of written exam.
Military Nursing Service(MNS) Selection Process
(A) Written Examination:
The shortlisted candidates will be called for the written exam which is conducted during the first/second week of September. The Written exam will be of total 100 marks and consists of only object(Multiple choices) type questions. The best advantage of the written exam is there is no negative marking.
The OMR(Optical mark recognition) based evaluation of the answer sheet will be done IHQ(Integrated Headquarters) of Ministry of Defence(MoD Army) and the result will be declared online on the official website of Indian Army by the fourth week of September. Note that the result of only successful shortlisted candidates will be declared on the official site. Along with the result, instructions for the interview will also be given. Candidates also note that the Indian Army will not inform result individually, therefore the confirmation of the result will be the candidate’s own responsibility.
Examination Centres for Written Exam:
There are generally two examination centers for written examination which are Lucknow and Pune. In case there is a large number of applicants then another center will be added and the information for examination center will be updated on the official website of the Indian army. The written examination and relevant dates will be updated on the official website and candidate and check the exam date at the time of filling of online application form.
(B) Interview and Medical Examination:
After Written Examination, the selected candidates will be called for interview during the month of October at Delhi. The number of selected candidates will approx three times of total vacancies and the candidates will be called in the order of their merits.
The duration of the interview and medical examination process will take 2-5 Working Days. Candidates should keep that in mind that the facility of accommodation will be their own responsibility. After clearing the interview process candidates will be directed to the Medical Examination.
According to the number of available vacancy and merit, the selected candidates who will be medically fit, the call letters will be sent to the final selected candidates to give the report at various Military Hospitals in the Indian Armed Forces. The final decision will be taken by the board for written test and interview.
The final mark for FIT or UNFIT will be decided and informed by the president(Medical Board) of the Indian army. Also, the process of looking for APPEAL/REVIEW OF MEDICAL BOARD will be informed by the president (Medical Board).
Important Note:-
At the time of the interview, candidates should have to bring their original and self-attested documents/ certificates of passing certificate, mark sheet and valid state registration certificate and other necessary certificates. If any of the above-mentioned document found missing then the candidate will be marked as rejected.
The shortlisted candidates should have to bring the following documents/certificates at the time of the interview:-

- Matriculation(Class 10th) Pass Certificate/School Leaving Certificate (For verifying Date of Birth).
- Registration certificate(should be valid) PG/PB B.Sc./B.Sc. Nursing degree course.
- B.Sc./ P.B. B.Sc./M.Sc. Nursing passing certificates and Mark sheets.
- NCC Certificates(If Any).
- Character Certificate issued by a University/Gazetted Officer.
- A proof ID of Indian citizenship Nationality(Aadhar Card/Voter ID/ Passport/any other proof)
- NOC(No Objection Certificate) from the present employer(In case if employed).
- One self-addressed envelope having a postal stamp of Rs 40 for speed-post(of call letters if selected).
- If any candidate is served previously in Military Nursing Service, a copy of release order is required.
- If any case such as candidate’s name change, father’s/mother’s name change, a copy of Gazette notification/or any other authority (highlighting the new name) is required.
